North Hills Plant Sale Draws Big Crowd, and Larger Community Spirit
The North Hills Garden Club is thrilled to share that this year’s North Hills Plant Sale was another tremendous success, raising more than $7,000 for neighborhood beautification efforts, with final totals still being tallied.
For the first time this year, shoppers were held at the entrance until the official 10:00 AM opening to create a fairer shopping experience for everyone. The result was not only a smoother and more organized sale, but a striking reminder of just how beloved this event has become. Seeing a crowd gathered at the gates, eager and waiting to shop, was a special moment for everyone involved and a powerful reflection of the excitement this event now generates across North Hills and beyond.
The Early Bloom Gets the Plant
A happy crowd of plant shoppers lined up at the entrance for the North Hills Plant Sale to open.
When the gates opened, shoppers poured into North Hills Park to browse hundreds of neighborhood-grown plants, rare native finds, garden favorites, and offerings from local vendors. Many of the most sought-after selections disappeared quickly as guests filled wagons and carried armfuls of greenery to the cashier line.
What many attendees may not realize is that while the Plant Sale lasts only a few hours, it is the result of months of work by dedicated volunteers. Behind every full wagon and freshly stocked plant table is a remarkable team of Garden Club members spending countless hours digging, dividing, potting, labeling, pricing, transporting, and staging plants long before sale day arrives.
This year’s sale was fueled by extraordinary plant donations from across the neighborhood, including standout contributions from Sandy Lee, Linda Denton, Maggie Bell, Sally Wilcox, Boyce Driscoll, Kaitlin Klema, Bea Carter, Rob Claytor, Anne Freels, and Shannon Campbell—whose trillium sold almost faster than volunteers could set them out.
At the heart of the operation is the Plant Sale Committee: Maggie Bell, Shannon Campbell, Linda Denton, Sandy Lee, Kris Mahoney, Carol McDaniel, and Sally Wilcox, whose dedication and behind-the-scenes work make this event possible year after year.
Special thanks are also owed to the many individuals who helped make this year’s event such a success, including Natalie Kurylo and Rod Lee for managing the opening crowd and implementing this year’s improved entrance process, Ken Crockett and the cashier team for expertly managing transactions throughout the day, Shannon Whitt and Sarah Ridner for leading Friday setup volunteers, Judith Rosenberg and family for running another successful Garden Shed, and Mary Nelle Osborne, whose donated trailer became the standout Garden Shed item and raised $400 on its own. The club also extends gratitude to Judi and Bill Talley for once again lending their yard for staging operations, and to Sandy and Rod Lee for continuing to provide storage space for equipment.
We are equally grateful to this year’s sponsors, whose support helps maximize the impact of every dollar raised: Clancy Custom Woodworking, Eightmoons Creations, Fisher Tire, First Neighborhoods Realty, and Zen Dog Metal Arts.
Because of this extraordinary community effort, the North Hills Plant Sale continues to be one of the neighborhood’s most meaningful traditions and one of its most visible examples of what can happen when neighbors come together around a shared purpose.
For those who joined us this year, thank you for shopping, volunteering, donating, and cheering us on. And for those who missed it, consider this your reminder to mark your calendar for next spring — Saturday, May 1, 2027.
